Joel Embiid doubtful for Game 5 after MRI on knee

Joel Embiid is officially doubtful for Game 5, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. An MRI of Joel’s right knee took place today and will be further evaluated on Wednesday. After falling hard on his knee attempting a driving layup in last night’s game and playing four extra minutes after, the Sixers big man was sidelined for the rest of the game.

Joel Embiid has been dominant for the Sixers this season, putting up MVP numbers on a nightly basis. He’s averaging 24 PTS, 6.8 REB, and 2.5 AST while shooting 63.5% from the field and 46.2% from three. The man has been unstoppable throughout the whole regular season, as he carries that dominance into the playoffs.

Along with the whole city of Philadelphia, I was holding my breath the minute he went down and didn’t really know what to make of it. With different Instagram posts, tweets, and insider updates, all signs are pointing to Joel Embiid just being a little banged up, but nothing major at all.

The consensus is that we won’t have an “official” update on Embiid’s knee until tomorrow, with Woj mentioning re-evaluation in a further day. The Sixers look to go out on Wednesday night, close out the series 4-1 and take the gentlemen’s sweep. Wells Fargo Center will officially roll at 100% capacity for the first time since March 11th, 2020.
