Dallas Goedert: “I would love to be in Philly forever”

Dallas Goedert could be here for the long haul. Yesterday, Goedert spoke with the media during the Eagles’ OTAs regarding his upcoming contract extension. Dallas is currently in the final year of his contract and has been one of the NFL’s best tight ends over the previous few seasons, taking the TE1 spot from Zach Ertz last season. When asked, this is what Goedert said regarding the situation:
“I think contract stuff is still in discussions a little bit, I’m not too worried about that. I have to go out there and play really good football. I’m leaving my contract stuff to my agent. He does a great job at that, that’s why I pay him. I just gotta go out here every day, continue to work, continue to get better.”
That is the perfect answer from any player regarding private conversations. But the more exciting part for Eagles fans is what he followed that up with,
“If I could get the contract extension, I would love to be in Philly forever, Having the second contract is the ultimate goal, so the sooner you can get to it, I feel like it’s the better. But, either way, whether I get it or not, I’m going to have the same mentality.”
Both the Eagles and their fanbase would want Dallas Goedert around the city of Philadelphia for a very long time if possible. At just 26-years-old he had 500 yards receiving last season despite missing almost half the season with injuries.
Between more playing time and the likely departure of Zach Ertz, those numbers will be sure to skyrocket. Currently, the Eagles have over $8.2 million in cap space with that number to increase next offseason, so there shouldn’t be any issue retaining Dallas Goedert financially.
