South Philly: The Phillies, Sixers both set to play at 1PM on Sunday

The Sixers closed out their first round series on Wednesday night against the Washington Wizards. The Phillies are opening up a three game weekend series against the Washington Nationals tonight. Zack Wheeler will be on the mound with Spencer Howard pitching tomorrow night and Vincent Velasquez taking the mound Sunday at 1PM in the series finale. Hopefully, Philly can continue their dominance over the nations capital, this time, in baseball.
As for the Sixers, they will open up round two action against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday at 1PM. Both the Phillies and Sixers will be at full capacity for their respected games. To say the very least, South Philadelphia will be an absolute party on Sunday for the first time in over a year.
Sixers
Although no updates have been put out since Wednesday, the current assumption is Joel Embiid will not be ready for Game 1. However, there’s reason to be optimistic, given the fact that Embiid was walking around pregame on Wednesday night and participated in shoot around with the team.
Game 1 of the ECSF will be a good one, with young star Trae Young coming to town. But a packed Wells Fargo Center doesn’t spare any mercy, so expect The Farg to be loud and active for 48 minutes straight come Sunday afternoon.
Phillies
The Phillies have had anything but a great start to their season, but if there’s one thing we know, we always have the Nationals number. Whether that comes to baseball games, stealing their star player, or their horrendous social media team, the Phillies tend to get the best of the Nats.
On the season, the Phillies are currently a half game behind the Braves and four games back of the NL East leading New York Mets. They are three games under .500 and the weekend series against the Nationals could be a huge momentum builder heading into a rivalry series against the Braves early next week.
Hopefully, they can get the bats working like they did against the Reds last game, where they hit seven home runs and scored 17 runs.
While you’re here, vote for your favorite Phillies players, as All Star Voting has officially opened. Voting is allowed for each player five times per day. Let’s be honest, the only Phillies’ players that have a chance at making the All-Star team would be Rhys Hoskins, Zack Wheeler, and Jean Segura.
