HBO whiffs on Hard Knocks, chooses Dallas Cowboys

Despite all the exciting options for this upcoming season, HBO has decided to go with the Dallas Cowboys for the 2021 edition of Hard Knocks. The Eagles were not in contention due to first-year head coach Nick Sirianni. Alongside hiring a new coach, teams can’t be on Hard Knocks if they made the playoffs in the last two seasons or appeared on Hard Knocks in the previous ten years.
This season will be the Cowboys’ second appearance, being the subject of the 2002 season, and genuinely, who would want to watch this team? Some of the other potential teams included the Jacksonville Jaguars, who were willing to waive the first-year head coach rule. A roster of Tim Tebow, Urban Meyer, and Trevor Lawrence while being set in Florida would’ve been a must-watch. Other options could have been the Denver Broncos if they landed Aaron Rodgers or the Panthers with their young roster.
Now fans will be subjected to watching Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy for five episodes which will be unbearable to any football fan outside the state of Texas. For the last several seasons, the teams featured have been excellent. In 2018 the Cleveland Browns had a lot of personalities led by rookie Baker Mayfield, 2019 had the Oakland Raiders with Jon Gruden, and last season featured both LA franchises. If you wish to subject yourself to this misery, the first episode premiers on August 10th.
