Maurice Jones-Drew disrespects Miles Sanders out of pure pettiness

Add another name to the list. Yesterday, former NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew ranked the top 32 running backs in the NFL. Eagles running back Miles Sanders is expected to make a massive jump in 2021 after a tremendous 2020 season where Doug Pederson just refused to give him the football. In Jones-Drew’s rankings, Sanders was listed 27th, yes you heard me right, 27th out of 32 running backs.
Some of the names ahead of Sanders include Chase Edmonds, Mike Davis, and rookie Najee Harris who has yet to play a down in the NFL. This list makes no sense, and so does MJD’s reasoning. For reference, Miles Sanders was 5th in the NFL in yards per carry amongst running backs in 2020.
Miles Sanders was also 7th in yards per game while having fewer carries than anyone ahead of him. Alongside that, this was all done behind an offensive line that was one of the NFL’s worst last season. Maruice’s reasoning for having him 27th might just be the stupidest thing I’ve heard all week.
“Sanders has shown flashes of being a really good player in both the run and pass games over his first two seasons. He was more productive as a runner in 2020, averaging 5.3 yards per carry, but wasn’t the pass-catching threat he was in his rookie season. Sanders must show up and have a Saquon Barkley-esque impact on the offense to help alleviate pressure from second-year QB Jalen Hurts. I’m looking for more consistency here.”
While I agree Miles Sanders had way too many drops last season, we are talking about running backs here, aren’t we? Sanders racked up more yards than FIFTEEN of the backs listed ahead of him. The disrespect between this and Chris Simms’ placing Jalen Hurts outside the top-40 quarterbacks is speechless.
Now I fully believe this is an act of pettiness from Jones-Drew. During the Eagles’ Super Bowl run, he picked the Eagles to lose because he didn’t like their fans.
“Their fans are so rude … on Twitter … on Instagram. Continue to be rude. I am going with Tom Brady and the Patriots. The fans are rude. I am done with them. I have adults yelling at me. They’re in my mentions and my DMs,”
There is a lot of hate being thrown towards the Eagles over the last several days, and I fully believe that the Eagles’ offense will use this as motivation to better themselves. Until then, please ignore any other list before the start of the 2021 season. Hopefully Miles Sanders comes out strong this upcoming season and proves Jones-Drew wrong.
