Francisco Morales and 3 Phillies prospects combine for a no-hitter for the Reading Fightin Phils

Francisco Morales has struggled in his first Double A season with the Reading Fightin Phils He entered last night with an 0-7 record and a 9.95 ERA in 10 appearances on the season. Still, the Phillies’ No. 4 prospect sits behind Spencer Howard, Mick Abel, and Bryson Stott as the best options in the minor leagues for the Phillies.
Last night, the 21 year old pitcher combined with three relievers to pitch a no-hitter against the Erie SeaWolves. The FIghtin’ Phils won the game 3-0. Morales pitched six innings with eight strikeouts and two walks. He was followed by Zach Warren, Kyle Dohy, and Brian Macroni. They combined for 11 strikeouts and six walks.
Following Morales, Warren entered the game to start the seventh inning and walked the bases loaded before Dohy entered the game to get a line drive out to second base to end the inning. Dohy settled in and pitched a great eighth inning before Macroni closed the game with a perfect outing in the ninth for his team-leading fifth save of the season.
The SeaWolves are the best team in the Southwest Division. It was a great win and performance by the Fightin Phils’ pitching, who currently sit at 21-32 on the season and were just no-hit themselves by Binghamton a few weeks ago.
The kids in the minor leagues are playing well and the Phillies have won two straight against a very good Padres baseball team. It’s 4th of July. Get outside, enjoy the nice weather in the Delaware Valley. Have some beers and hot dogs and settle in at 1:05pm as the Phillies go for the sweep against the Padres.
Ring it.
