Tobias Harris could replace Bradley Beal at 2021 Summer Olympics

After Bradley Beal was pulled from the upcoming Summer Olympics, one of the 76ers’ stars could be named his replacement. Yesterday, Keith Pompey reported that USA Basketball inquired about the availability of 76ers forward Tobias Harris. Tobi is currently out of the country on vacation but is returning on Saturday. The US basketball team is dealing with an ongoing COVID outbreak, having to place Jerami Grant in health and safety protocols.
The other leading candidate alongside Tobias Harris is former 76er Christian Wood. Harris, who just turned 29 yesterday, would be the only member of the 76ers to represent the United States. Matisse Thybulle is doing a tremendous job with Australia, while Ben Simmons opted out of this summer’s Olympics.
Because of the ongoing situation, USA Basketball canceled their second scrimmage against Australia scheduled for Friday. Their next and final scrimmage will be on Sunday against Spain. Even with Beal, the United States has struggled in its early scrimmages, losing to Nigeria and Australia. Hopefully, the introduction of Harris can help boost America to Olympic Gold this summer.
