Flyers release protected list ahead of the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft

The Philadelphia Flyers have officially released their protection list ahead of the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft for the Seattle Kraken. The list was pretty much what we expected, with little to no surprises. You can read Stumps preview of the Flyers and the Expansion Draft here. It was also announced yesterday that the Flyers traded Nolan Patrick and Phil Myers. With the trade, the Flyers acquired defenseman Ryan Ellis from the Nashville Predators.
Flyers Protected:
- Aube-Kubel
- Couturier
- Giroux
- Hayes
- Konecny
- Laughton
- Lindblom
- Ellis
- Provorov
- Sanheim
- Hart
Flyers Available:
- Voracek
- van Riemsdyk
- Braun
- Gostisbehere
- Hagg
It was reported earlier this month that Jakob Voracek was expected to be moved this offseason.
Voracek is reportedly knowing of this decision and has been a popular choice to be let go for his hefty contract alongside a dropoff in production. Jakub was traded to the Flyers from the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2011 with a first-round pick for Jeff Carter.
While many would like the 31-year-old to remain in Philadelphia for the remainder of his career, it doesn’t make much sense with their current financial situation. With Seattle having the ability to take in a lot of cap space during the expansion draft, Jakub Voracek could likely be a Kraken this offseason.
Something to keep an eye on from NHL Rumors:
The 2021 NHL Expansion Draft will be held on Wednesday, July 21st at 8PM.
