NBA releases key dates for 76ers’ 2021/2022 season

Although the 76ers’ season just ended, the NBA has announced the schedule for the 2021-2022 season. Before heading into the next season, the important dates for this offseason begins with the 2021 NBA Draft kicking off on Thursday. Following that, free agency starts on August 2nd at 6 PM, but players cannot sign contracts until the 6th officially. Just two days after that is the NBA’s Summer League in Las Vegas from the 8th through the 17th.
The 2021/2022 season begins for the 76ers on September 28th, with the start of training camp and opening night taking place a few weeks later on October 19th. It looks like the NBA’s Play-In tournament will be a permanent fixture, taking place from April 12th until the 15th. Lastly, the league seems to be fast-tracking a return to their regular schedule, with next year’s season concluding on June 19th and the 2022 NBA Draft just four days later.
The shortened offseason will be tough on players across the league. Luckily for Philadelphia, after their early exit, they still will have three months off like they usually did before COVID-19. This offseason will allow Joel Embiid and company to rest up much more compared to their return from the bubble. Daryl Morey will have a busy few months ahead, with the 76ers reportedly very likely to trade the 28th pick and the Ben Simmons saga still ongoing.
