Brito, Ortiz, Lindow and Gamboa honored by Phillies organization for July performances

The Philadelphia Phillies have announced their outstanding players in the minor leagues for the month of July. Lehigh Valley’s Daniel Brito, Reading’s Jhailyn Ortiz, Jersey Shore’s Ethan Lindow, and Lehigh Valley’s Arquímedes Gamboa have been named Phillies minor leagues Co-Hitters, Pitcher, and Defender of the Month for July.
Let’s start with Daniel Brito. The 23 year old played 25 games with Reading and Lehigh Valley combining for a batting average of .298 with four doubles, three triples, six home runs, and 17 RBI. Brito carried a .389 OBP and .596 SLG throughout those 25 games and had a 10-game hit streak from July 17-27th. He was also named Double-A Offensive Player of the Week ending July 4th.
On July 31st, Daniel Brito suffered a medical emergency during the first inning of a game against the Rochester Red Wings. Brito collapsed on the field and required emergency surgery the that day and another surgery the following day. The game and the rest of the series against Rochester was suspended.
While Brito’s future playing baseball is uncertain, the IronPigs honored him by wearing his name and number on the back of their jerseys. We can only hope for a tremendous comeback performance from Brito, who was clearly playing some of the best baseball of his career in the month of July.
Next up is 22-year old Jhailyn Ortiz, someone who we have written about a lot over the last month. In 27 games between Jersey Shore and Reading, Ortiz batted .277 with three doubles, 13 home runs, and 25 RBI. He carried an astounding .723 slugging percentage and a 1.088 OPS. His 13 dingers were tied for second most in all of the minor leagues during the month of July. Ortiz had three games in which he hit multiple home runs, and went back-to-back days doing so on July 24th and July 25th.

Ethan Lindow went 3-1 with a 1.55 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP with 24 strikeouts and only five walks in 29 innings of work for the Jersey Shore BlueClaws. He did not allow an earned run in any of his final four appearances of the month and finished July with a 20.0 scoreless innings streak.
23-year old Arquimedes Gamboa was a defensive mastermind in the month of July, playing 217.1 innings of errorless baseball in 25 games. He converted all 84 of his total chances while playing shortstop, centerfield, third base, and second base. Gamboa is also solid from the plate and continues to get better, batting .241 with a .755 OPS with eight home runs and 27 RBI.
Always great to see the minor league system putting up some promising numbers. The list doesn’t stop here as Bryson Stott and Mickey Moniak continued their great play during the month of July as well.
