RING IT: Phillies avoid sweep, beat the Dodgers 2-1

The Philadelphia Phillies bounced back this afternoon with a 2-1 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The win helped the Fightins avoid the sweep after losing two times over the past two nights. It’s amazing what happens when you aren’t hit with two rain delays.
Ranger Suarez was on the mound for the Phillies making his third start as a member of the Phillies’ starting rotation. Suarez entered today throwing 5.2 innings in two starts, striking out five batters, letting up zero earned runs, and not allowing a hit. He has been on an innings restriction since joining the the rotation from the bullpen, but managed to pitch 4.1 innings today, allowing three hits, one earned run, and two walks while striking out four.
Bryce Harper, who struggled the first two games against the Dodgers, resumed his MVP campaign today going 1-for-2 from the plate with a home run and a run scored. He also walked twice. Ronald Torreyes added another run on a single to centerfield. The Phillies took an early 2-0 lead and relied on solid pitching from their bullpen to walk away with a victory.
As we all know, nothing comes easy for the Phillies. Ian Kennedy came in looking for save in the ninth inning and to no fault of his own, walked two batters to put two men on with two-outs. The umpire behind the plate was a joke, and Joe Girardi was ejected from the ball game after arguing the second walk from Kennedy.
Kennedy then loaded the bases after he hit Will Smith with an 85mph changeup. Kennedy got Billy KcKinney to fly out to Andrew McCutchen to end the game. The Phillies won 2-1 and avoided the sweep. Thank god.
The Phillies will open a three game weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds tomorrow night at 7:05pm. The New York Mets won game one of a double header against the Nationals. The Atlanta Braves will play tonight against the Reds. The Phillies jump back up to a half game lead on the Braves, for now, in first place of the National League East and have a one game lead on the second third place Mets.
Make sure you grab a new Phillies t-shirt as the hunt for Red October continues >>
