Given how tight to the cap the Flyers already were I didn’t expect them to go out and grab anymore fresh faces, but I was wrong. Chuck Fletcher is now bolstering up the center depth, grabbing a player in Brassard who has played under Alain Vigneault before when the Rangers went the finals in 2014 and is comfortable with his style.
One has to wonder what the ripple effect of this move is going to be in terms of the opening night lineup. I can only assume this signing means there is one less spot to fight for in training camp for the young guns, so expect some urgency from them. The Flyers now sit at a projected $-543K in cap space, so more maneuvering needs to be done.
Keith Yandle is the insurance policy if Cam York isn’t ready. Derick Brassard is most likely the same for Morgan Frost.

Brassard, 33, is now a bottom-six depth center who has the experience and playoff miles to fit into this team just fine in my opinion. It feels like he’s played for every Metropolitan division team under the sun. Like I’ve said before, Chuck and Alain love their guys.
