ICYMI: Phillies Weekend Roster Moves

The Phillies just lost 3-of-4 games to the Colorado Rockies. They are now 4.5 games behind the NL East leading Atlanta Braves and 2.5 games out of a crowded race for the NL Wild Card with just 19 games to play. The Hunt for Red October is coming to a very familiar end, which we have seen time and time again in the month of September for the last decade.
Over the weekend, the Phillies made a bunch of roster moves. Andrew Knapp has been reinstated from the COVID-19 IL. He was sidelined in August after testing positive for COVID-19. Yes, Andrew Knapp was vaccinated. Rafael Marchan was optioned to Triple A Lehigh Valley given the fact that Knapp rejoined the team.
Finally, Enyel De Los Santos was designated for assignment. He had a 6.75 ERA in 26 appearances so the only surprise here is the fact that he was able to pitch in 26 games for the Phillies this season.
Matt Joyce rejoined the Phillies on September 11th after spending the majority of this season on the 60-Day IL. Joyce never really found a rhythm regardless with the Phillies, batting .100 (5-for-50) before hitting the injured list.
We did see Mickey Moniak over the weekend. He was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley since Travis Jankowski landed himself on the 10-Day IL with a concussion. Adonis Medina was recalled from Triple A Lehigh Valley as well with Ramon Rosso optioned to Triple A.
The most heartbreaking roster news personally was to see Vincent Velasquez get designated for assignment. Vinny Velo has been on the Phillies since 2016 but just never found consistency. Sometimes you just have to let the ones you love go. Cheers to you Vinny.
The Phillies will have the day off today before opening a three game series against the Chicago Cubs tomorrow night.
Ring it. Or don’t. Whatever.
