Doc Rivers compares Ben Simmons to Donald Trump during MSNBC interview

76ers head coach Doc Rivers has been making the rounds across media outlets over the last few days and most recently appeared on MSNBC this morning to discuss Rivers’ docuseries podcast. “It Was Said Sports.” The host, Willie Geist, asked Rivers about the ongoing situation with Ben Simmons, and he had arguably one of the wildest comments I’ve seen about Simmons so far.
“There’s times that I think we’re getting through, and then there’s times that I think I’m talking to people who still believe Trump won the election. So I’m not sure, but I’m going to keep trying.”
If I had to guess what Doc Rivers meant by this, it’s that Ben Simmons and Klutch are falsifying the events that caused the split between the two. Most likely, Doc’s comments about Simmons following their Game Seven loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Doc Rivers isn’t wrong in his stance at all, and it shouldn’t get to the point where he has to appear on national television to discuss the stand-off.
It wouldn’t shock me in the slightest if Simmons and Klutch are stretching the truth about their argument to meet their end goals. Not a soul in the NBA is on their side, with even some of Klutch’s mouthpieces disagreeing with Ben Simmons’ stance. 76ers training camp is just under a week away, and Simmons remains adamant in not appearing and taking whatever fines are thrown at him.
