Flyers begin cuts, send Elliot Desnoyers back to QMJHL; Preseason Game 5 Preview

What a way to introduce yourself to the city of Philadelphia, am I right? In his first preseason game with the Flyers, the 135th pick in the 2020 draft, Elliot Desnoyers threw down with tough guy, John Moore. Desnoyers has never fought in his life, but wanted to show the Flyers he’ll do anything to win a hockey game.
Today, before their 5th preseason game against the Islanders, the Flyers made some cuts with Desnoyers being one of them. Elliot Desnoyers looks to go back to the Halifax Mooseheads and build on a stellar D+1 year (led the team in points) and an extremely impressive 1st NHL training camp.
Cuts
Samu Tuomaala being sent to the Phantoms is pretty eye-opening for me. He can still be sent to the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL, but him getting an opportunity to go to another pro training camp means he caught the eye of the organization a little. Tuomaala has been on record saying he wants to be in the AHL, but what the player wants and what the organization thinks is best for that player doesn’t always lineup. Something to keep an eye on.
The Flyers play the New York Islanders tonight in Bridgeport, Connecticut at 7pm. The game won’t be on TV, but the Islanders said they will be streaming the game on their Facebook and Twitter apps. Head to their pages once 6:30 rolls around.
Tonight’s Game:
Here’s the roster for tonight, only about nine or ten players playing tonight that will most-likely be on the team come October 15th.
- Brassard
- Laughton
- Thompson
- NAK
- Bunnaman (13th forward)
- Sanheim
- Seeler (7th D)
- Braun
- Ristolainen
- Jones
The Flyers don’t have their full lineup obviously, but it’s still a chance to get a look at the Sanheim – Ristolainen pair, they looked calm and efficient in their last game. Looking forward to what we see from them tonight.
At this point, Seeler is my 7th defenseman. I love the way he’s carried himself throughout camp and preseason, he’s a lot more physical then I expected. I don’t think Clendening has been very good in this camp and think he’d be a better fit playing with Cam York on that 1st pair with the Phantoms anyway.
Justin Braun is a player that I personally think is having a quietly good camp. Doesn’t do anything flashy but has a great defensive stick and is always in the right spot. Plus, it seems like he has an extra jump to his step.
Should be fun, Go Flyers!
