Delaware Blue Coats bolster guard depth in 2021 G-League Draft

The Delaware Blue Coats bolstered their roster this morning in the 2021 G-League Draft. Several prominent names were selected across the league, like Lance Stephenson, LiAngelo Ball, and Zaire Wade, son of NBA legend Dwyane Wade. The Coats owned the first overall pick, thanks to a trade conducted a few days ago, and selected point guard Shamorie Ponds. Delaware’s only other selection was another point guard in Barra Njie from Sweeden.
Shamorie Ponds is a 23-year-old who most recently played overseas in the Bosnian League. Initially, Ponds was a UDFA from St. John’s and was on a two-way deal with the Toronto Raptors, playing for them and their G-League team, the 905.
Barra Njie is new to the G-League scene, having played overseas for the entirety of his young career. The 20-year-old guard averaged 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists with KFUM Fryshuset Basket and could be an exciting addition to the Blue Coats’ roster.
Following today’s draft, the Blue Coats have just two weeks until their season opener on November 6th. There are several names to keep an eye on in Delaware, including Grant Riller, Aaron Henry, Jarden Brownridge, and Braxton Key. Meanwhile, the 76ers are back in action tomorrow against the OKC Thunder.
