Calm down about Nick Sirianni not watching defensive film

After today’s press conference, people are once up in arms about Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni. During his conversation with the media, the loveable Howard Eskin tweeted out a video where Sirianni discussed his game planning for this past week. During the video, Sirianni stated that he didn’t watch too much film on the defensive side of the ball when preparing.
In typical Howard Eskin fashion, he pulled it out of context and the masses took the bait as they always do. Hearing it on its own, the quote is terrible, and to be fair, Nick Sirianni shouldn’t have said anything regarding it. However, he is not doing much wrong by going about strategizing this way.
I have been far from one to defend Nick Sirianni this season, and this could be an easy way to drag the rookie head coach. But in reality, this is what most NFL head coaches do. Unless you’re Bill Belichick or Mike Tomlin, most coaches specialize on one side of the football and designate the coordinator to run the other side.
I have witnessed college head coaches who are very successful who never touch the defense outside of just a wellness check of what is going on. There is not enough time in the day as an NFL head coach to run practice, game plan for offense, and work in an entire defensive script and study session.
So yes, there are several valid issues to criticize Nick Sirianni for, like the holding penalty or just learning the concept of handing the ball off to the running back. But this comment is being blown out of proportion, and fans need to see the bigger picture before attacking him.
