Shawn Marion defends, encourages Ben Simmons to develop his offensive play style

While many have criticized Ben Simmons’ playstyle and refusal to shoot the basketball, one former All-Star has his back. Recently, Shawn Marion spoke with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Bally Sports about the controversial 76ers star and related to what Simmons is going through.
Marion said he feels that Simmons needs to shoot more but believes in his ability to do so this season. One of the key points the former Dallas Maverick emphasized was that beauty isn’t everything with a jump shot. Shawn Marion is notorious for having an unpleasant shooting motion, but it worked to the tune of several 20 PPG seasons.
Ahead of the season, rumors circulated that Ben Simmons wanted to be moved to a team where he could be the offensive focus and play a Giannis-like role. At the same time, he wanted the ability to make mistakes, and many consider that a reason why Simmons never attempted jump shots.
Simmons spoke with the team on Friday, took responsibility for his actions, and is working with the medical staff on an eventual return. Hopefully, Ben Simmons can come back willing to shoot more. With all the criticism Philly fans have given him, they will be glad just to see Simmons attempting to expand his game.
