Damian Lillard wants to be called a rapper and not a basketball player

Damian Lillard recently sat down with REVOLT after releasing his fourth studio album Different On Levels (The) Lord Allows. The album title is an acronym for his rap name, Dame DOLLA. Here’s what Lillard had to say about rapping and how it helps him mentally, taking his mind off basketball.
Damian Lillard quote from REVOLT:
“I don’t think it helps with my hooping, but it helps keep my mind right — have something else to balance it out. When you focus on basketball, what the media’s saying, winning and losing, playing well and not playing well, it can be a lot. It helps give me something else to have my mind [on], something else to feel good about.”
Lillard continued by saying that he wants fans to respect him as a rapper. Of course, everyone knows him as an All-Star NBA player and an Olympic Gold Medalist, but Lillard wants that to change.
“What I want fans to get from my new project is I’m not a basketball player that raps, I’m a rapper.”
Well Dame, do I have some great news for you, buddy. If you come to Philadelphia, we will literally call you whatever you want to be called. It honestly doesn’t matter. You want to link up with Meek Mill and become a Dreamchaser? Consider it done. Meek has collaborated with other 76ers players in the past. This Meek Mill and Lou Williams song was an absolute banger.
This isn’t Portland, Dame. I mean look at this Wikipedia search of rappers from Portland. What an absolute joke. You need to be in a city that knows rap music. We are the home of Meek Mill, Lil Uzi Vert, and Gillie Da Kid who are still all over the internet and releasing new music and/or content on a daily basis. Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Eve, Will Smith, The Roots, Lil Dicky, Cassidy, you name em, we got em, Dame. We can keep going, Kurupt, AR-Ab (for the real ones), Lil Skies (for Gen Z), DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Schoolly D (for the old heads).
Hell, I will even reach out to Lil Dicky and we’ll get you on the next season of Dave on FX. Boom, now you’re an actor too. Whatever you want from Philadelphia, fans will give you. Just request a trade from Portland and we’ll let Daryl Morey handle the rest. You are 1-2 on the season. The Sacramento Kings beat you to open the season and the Los Angeles just embarrassed you, Dame. You want a Billboard Top 5 album, Philadelphia is the place to be. We will have that bumping up and down Broad Street 24 hours a day. I promise you.
Check out Dame DOLLA’s new album and lets all just pray he requests that trade to Philadelphia sooner than later.
