Shams Bomb: Ben Simmons wouldn’t play immediately even if he’s traded

After rumors earlier this week regarding a potential Jaylen Brown-Ben Simmons swap, that no longer seems to be the case. Earlier today, Shams Charania appeared on the Pat McAfee show and elaborated more on his report from Monday. It didn’t seem likely that the proposed trade would occur, but we finally have confirmation on that.
UPDATE: RICH PAUL COMMENTS ON BEN SIMMONS // 76ERS ORGANIZATION >>
“They didn’t want to move Jaylen Brown for Ben Simmons.”
The likely package reported was Marcus Smart and Robert Williams, but the 76ers had no interest in that deal. What was even more interesting was that Charania alluded to the fact that Simmons’ return to play might not be just a 76ers issue.
“Even if he was traded tomorrow, he wouldn’t just suit up and play. He needs to get right mentally.”
That is a bombshell quote and opens a Pandora’s Box of scenarios for the 76ers. Doc Rivers did say that Simmons attended a team film session this morning and has recently begun to meet with team doctors. But between his mental state and his feelings towards the team, Ben Simmons likely won’t be hitting the court anywhere in the near future.
“I don’t see any resolution coming on the horizon.”
Meanwhile, for the 76ers, Tobias Harris has returned from COVID protocols and is playing right now against the Toronto Raptors. Joel Embiid, Matisse Thybulle, and Isaiah Joe are all still out but will hopefully be ready to go in the near future.
