Kevin Hayes’ first home game of the season; Flames @ Flyers Preview

In what will be Kevin Hayes’ first home game of the season, we have the 8-3-4 Flames coming into Philadelphia to take on the 7-4-2 Flyers, in what needs to be a big bounce back game for the boys. You can catch the game on at 7:00pm on NBCSP.
Carter Hart will get the nod tonight. He currently holds a 2.32 GAA and a .931 SV% on the season. He was the starting goalie against the Flames in the 4-0 loss in the last game of that western road trip. Hart, like he has been his last handful of games, was the only reason the Flyers were able to stay in that game for as long as they did. Finally, Monahan opened the scoring halfway through the 2nd period on the PP. Hopefully the offense can wake up for Hart this time around.
Unfortunately, there will be no Ryan Ellis for the foreseeable future. We saw Ellis return to the lineup against Dallas Saturday and actually pick up an assist on Provorov’s power play blast. Ellis was placed on IR today per the Flyers, meaning Nick Seeler will be in the line up tonight.
Oskar Lindblom, who has 0G-1A in 13 games so far this season, will be a healthy scratch tonight per AV. We saw Lindblom sit a couple times last season for rest. Hopefully this will have the same outcome as it last year, he seemed to really respond well to the off days. With Lindblom sitting for a game, Patrick Brown will draw into the line up with Nate Thompson and Zack MacEwen.
We talked about it on Episode 71 of The Liberty Yell, the Flyers HAVE to pick up their offense. 1.6 goals a game since the Edmonton win (5-3), isn’t going to keep you in a lot of games. Both teams have actually been struggling on the power play in the last 5GP, so I’m interested to see what team can breakthrough. The Flyers are 2 for their last 17 (12%), and the Flames are 2 for their last 12 (17%).
Although they’ve struggled on the mad advantage on one end, both teams have actually been very good on the PK in the last 5GP. The Flyers have killed off 14 of their last 16 (88%) and the Flames have killed off 16 of their last 18 (89%). Makes it that much harder to predict what PP could breakthrough.
Projected Lineup vs the Calgary Flames
Giroux – Couturier – JVR
Farabee – Hayes – Atkinson
Brassard – Laughton – Konecny
Brown – Thompson – MacEwen
Provorov – Braun
Sanheim – Ristolainen
Yandle – Seeler
Hart
Justin Braun has been great to start the season. He’s been playing on a top pairing with Provorov, has 8 points in 13 games and has been doing his usual thing on the PK. With Ellis now out, the Flyers are really going to need Braun to continue his strong start.
Should be a very fun hockey game. The Flyers are currently 5-0 after losses, looking to go 6-0 tonight. Being at home, with Carter Hart in net, they have to get this win.
LETS. GO. FLYERS.
