Phillies Logan O’Hoppe Wins the 2021 Dernell Stenson Sportsmanship Award

The Arizona Fall League has officially come to an end, and the Phillies representatives had themselves a very successful fall. Logan O’Hoppe, the #11 prospect in the Phillies organization, took home the 2021 Dernell Stenson Sportsmanship Award yesterday, after an incredible fall with the Peoria Javelinas.
O’Hoppe had a fantastic stint in the AFL, putting Phillies fans in a state of hope for the future. O’Hoppe slashed a line of .299/.440/.519 in 22 games, with 3 HRs, 17 RBIs, 32 total hits with 8 doubles, 3 stolen bases, and an OPS of .960. O’Hoppe led all AFL catchers in walks, stolen bases, home runs, and finished second in OPS.
Logan O’Hoppe talked after winning the Stenson Award, and this is part of what he had to say after winning the award.
“That’s something I try to take pride in and really focus on during the year, but I think it came from being surrounded by good people when I was younger, back on Long Island…..Fortunately, there are some good people over there. And that really helped me along the way. That’s just to name a few. There are tons that I’ve been lucky enough to be surrounded with, but I’d say the people around me have definitely helped me at that.”
Phillies general manager Sam Fuld, who was also a previous Dernell Stenson Award winner in the AFL, gave Logan O’Hoppe a special message on Twitter as well.
The Stenson award is given out every year to an AFL player who shows leadership, unselfishness, and hard work, and all the other great leadership and sportsmanship qualities. Peoria Javelinas manager Anthony Contreras also spoke volumes about Logan O’Hoppe. He mentioned how O’Hoppe takes care of his body, he is a great teammate, and his attention to detail is unmatched, especially in the cage.
Logan O’Hoppe had an incredible season in the Arizona Fall League, and his play, sportsmanship, and attitude for the game all led him to win the 2021 Dernell Stenson Sportsmanship Award. The offseason is heating up, and we have all things Phillies provided here on The Liberty Line.
