Don’t look now, but Jake Elliott is having a career year

After a terrible 2020 season, Eagles kicker Jake Elliott has proven he is worth the hefty extension given to him in 2019. So far this season, Elliott has statistically been one of the best kickers in the NFL, making almost every attempt through 11 games.
Last season Jake Elliott only made 73% of his field goals alongside two missed extra points. The 73% was by far the lowest in his career, and many had already begun to call him out on it and demand change. Howie’s extension looked like an albatross with no way escaping it.
In 2021, the Elliott that the Eagles had extended returned better than ever. So far this season, the Eagles kicker has yet to miss an extra point over 29 attempts and has made 90% of his field goals. Already Jake Elliott has made more extra points than last season and is 100% on kicks over 50 yards.
Per PFF, Elliott has the third-highest field goal grade at an 84, trailing only Justin Tucker and Chris Boswell. In 2020, Jake Elliott was the 2nd worst of any starter with a 41, his career-low by over 20%.
Long-term extensions for a kicker are tricky, and things can flip on a dime with this position more often than any other position in the league. So let’s hope what’s going on now will continue, and the Eagles have their next long-term kicker locked in while producing great numbers.
