Playoff Hunt: The Eagles still control their own destiny

Although it looked bleak after their loss to the New York Giants last week, the Eagles still control their destiny to make the playoffs this season. Philadelphia briefly took over the 7th playoff spot as a wildcard after Minnesota lost to the Detroit Lions, but lost the spot to Washington after their win.Â
Luckily, even though they are out of the picture currently, the Eagles can move back in very quickly following their bye week. Over their last four games, Philadelphia faces Washington, New York, Washington again, and Dallas. A push for the division could happen, but the Eagles’ best bet is a wildcard berth.
According to FiveThirtyEight, the Birds currently have a 38% chance to make the playoffs and a 5% chance to win the NFC East. If they beat Washington after the bye, those odds soar to 54% and an 8% chance to win the East.
The Eagles can make it happen, and it’s not incredibly difficult to imagine. The most straightforward way it can occur, and the likeliest is just winning out. Beating Washington twice alongside revenge games against New York and Dallas could very well happen. If they do that, Philadelphia will knock Washington out of the frame and take over their spot.
It’ll be far easier to determine the situation after the Eagles’ bye week with Washington and Dallas facing off this upcoming weekend. The Football Team faces Dallas, the Eagles, Dallas again, the Eagles again, and the Giants to end their season. So very similar schedules for both of these teams.
This team faltered in the spotlight last time they had a crucial game, but hopefully, they will learn from their mistakes in two weeks. Jalen Hurts should be back in the fold alongside guard Brandon Brooks with the late bye, also providing a final break to get some much-needed rest.Â
