Flyers win their second straight, beat the Arizona Coyotes 5-3

We’re going streaking. The Flyers have now won two games in a row for the first time since October 27-28 with a 5-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes. Martin Jones got the start on the second half of a back-to-back and the Flyers return to Philly with some life.

James Van Riemsdyk opened the scoring right away snapping one by Vejmelka on the rush.

The Coyotes quickly tied the game shortly after, but the first period overall from the Flyers was nice to see. Towards the end Arizona kept the puck for about two minutes during a delayed penalty and thankfully couldn’t cash in.

Travis Konecny made a shifty move to the slot that allowed Scott Laughton to receive and deposit a goal to make it 2-1 5 minutes into the second frame.

Nick Schmaltz got a rebound and tied the game for the Coyotes and it was followed by a mishap from the Arizona netminder that gave Patrick Brown a layup of a goal.

It was almost like a switch flipped in the Flyers after this and they were buzzing. They earned themselves a powerplay opportunity and James Van Riemsdyk registered yet another goal. This one came on a redirect from a Konecny wrist shot and it quickly became 4-2.

To see players like Couturier, JVR, and Konecny pick up their play during this stretch gives me a sliver of hope. I saw something in the Flyers tonight I had not seen since October and the confidence kept snowballing. I know Arizona isn’t a great measuring stick, but it’s a relief to see a performance like this.

Giroux grabbed the insurance marker on a great play from Atkinson and Frost and that was all she wrote. Arizona got one back in garbage time and it was too late as the Flyers are suddenly on a two game win streak.

Quick Hits

  • JVR with 3 goals in the last 2 games. He’s always been known as streaky, let’s hope this one lasts.
  • Konecny appears to be getting back into rhythm.
  • Giroux with another goal to add to his hot start. Underrated play by Morgan Frost on that one as well
  • We need to stop allowing goals whenever we get the lead. Incredibly frustrating to watch.
  • Now we have an upcoming week of New Jersey, Montreal, and Ottawa. Time to parlay this momentum.
  • Martin Jones stopped 29 of 32 and got the job done.
  • 10-12-4.
