Joel Embiid joins elite company in scoring 30+ points in eight straight games

Joel Embiid has slowly began to solidfy himself as one of the best 76ers I’ve watched in my lifetime, and tonight he joins two of the pillars of Sixers basketball for the top spot in the record books.
The 76ers came into this matchup against the Hornets red hot, rattling off seven straight wins. In all of those games, Joel Embiid has score 30+ points, having a monumental impact on the Sixers current state in the standings.
After notching 31 points against the Rockets on Monday night Joel Embiid joined the elite company of Wilt Chamberlain and Allen Iverson as the only 76ers to score 30-points in seven straight games.
If you’re more into the stats, Joel Embiid has simply been the best player in the NBA over the last seven games. Through that stretch Embiid is rocking a stat line of 32.8 points, 10 boards, 4.7 assists, and 1.5 blocks. That stat line includes Joel’s third triple-double of his career against the Rockets, showing he can be a facilitator if needed.
Now, Joel Embiid becomes the third Sixer with eight 30-point games in a row, the best in 76ers franchise history. Embiid has already begun to solidify himself as one of the greatest to dawn a Sixers uniform, and to grab such an illustrious record with guys like Iverson and Chamberlain only boosts his case.
Joel Embiid throughout this eight game stretch and this whole season has done something that makes you think “that’s a seven-footer?!” From no-look dimes across the key to Matisse Thybulle, to pull up three-balls that catch opposing centers completely off-guard. Then, you watch Embiid bring the ball down the court, hit a hesi-crossover for an easy layup like he’s Tyrese Maxey. Except that’s a 7-foot, 280-pound center.
Everyone loves to open up the discussion about how the NBA has evolved over the years, especially with what is asked of the modern-day center. Joel Embiid has embodied that new-age center, and one could even throw around the big word “transcendent” given only to the best of the best. Personally when a guy comes out and scores 30+ points in eight straight games, I’m willing to give that label to him.
All the congratulations goes out to Joel Embiid for reaching a record many considered untouchable. Hopefully this honor will bring Joel the praise he deserves from the league, and maybe even vault him into the MVP discussion. To the Sixer fans, appreciate the elite player you’ve gotten to watch over these eight games, because a guy like Embiid comes only once in a generation.
