Bears hire Eagles’ executive as their new Assistant General Manager

The Eagles lost one of the key members of their front office yesterday. According to Ian Rapoport, the Chicago Bears are hired Ian Cunningham as their Assistant General Manager.
Cunningham was the Eagles’ director of player personnel, having been promoted this past offseason. Earlier this week, it was reported that Cunningham was close with the Bears’ newly hired general manager Ryan Poles.
Retaining Cunningham was always going to be a challenge for Howie Roseman. Last offseason, the Carolina Panthers interviewed him for the same role with their franchise, but he unfortunately didn’t land the job.
Fellow Eagles’ executives Catherine Raiche and Brandon Brown were interviewed for the Vikings’ GM opening a few weeks back but unfortunately didn’t land the job.
The Bears also recently hired Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus as their new head coach. Eagles passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo is reportedly one of the names Eberflus is looking at to become their next offensive coordinator.
Losing Cunningham hurts the Eagles’ front office, but they should be able to recover just fine. Alongside him and Patullo, Philadelphia could also lose other key staff members.
Defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon is reported to be in the lead for the Houston Texans’ head coach opening and had a second interview with the team today. Quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson is also linked to the Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator opening after former OC Nathaniel Hackett accepted the Denver Broncos’ HC position.
