Sean Couturier undergoes back surgery, ruled out for remainder of season

This morning the Flyers announced that Sean Couturier underwent ‘successful’ back surgery and will miss the remainder of this season.
Couturier, who hasn’t played since December 18th is in the first year of an 8 year/$64 million extension that he signed in August. He finishes the 2021-2022 campaign, locally known as the ‘shit stained toilet bowl’ with 6 goals and 11 assists in 29 games. All career-lows for the former Selke Award winner.
In the absence of anything remotely positive to say about the remainder of the Flyers season, I’m sure I speak for the entire fanbase in wishing Coots a speedy recovery and hoping he is ready to go for training camp next fall.
Losing Couturier hurts, but this season is a lost cause at this point so it’s perfect for him to get surgery ASAP so he will be good to go for next season. It’ll also help the Flyers’ raise their draft odds to hopefully land a top pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
