Lane Johnson speaks on Carson Wentz and his future in the NFL

Over the last few weeks, rumors have circulated that the Indianapolis Colts will be moving on from Carson Wentz after just one season with the team. It’s unknown what lies ahead, but it’s doubtful he will land another starting job next season. Despite that, Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson is confident Wentz will be alright.
Johnson recently spoke with Colin Cowherd about Wentz’s future and had this to say.
“I think he’s going to — if he doesn’t stay with the Colts — he’s going to land with a great team. I heard you talking about Pittsburgh. I think he’d be a good pickup for them, just having the defense they have.”
Pittsburgh and the Washington Commanders have been the betting favorites to land the former Eagles QB, but it doesn’t seem to be the right fit. Why would the Steelers go after a quarterback who failed in a system catered to him when they can draft a quarterback prospect instead?
There are also other quality options out there, including Jimmy Garapopolo and potentially Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson.
If the Colts move on from Wentz, it will certainly be through a release since nobody will want to take on his cap hit. Indy acquired Wentz from the Eagles just a little over a year ago in exchange for the 16th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and a 2021 third-round pick.
The deadline for Indianapolis to cut Wentz before his contract is guaranteed is March 15th, so any move will likely be in the coming weeks.
