Washington Commanders reveal they have a “shortlist” of 42 quarterbacks

The QB market has been in shambles across the NFL so far this off-season. So far, there hasn’t been much news regarding the Eagles’ future with Jalen Hurts, with all signs pointing towards his return next season.
One of the Eagles’ top targets, Russell Wilson, looks to be staying in town. Recently Wilson spoke with The Today Show and made it clear that he had no interest in joining the Washington Commanders or any team on the east coast at this time.
“I love the East Coast, but I think the West Coast is better for me right now.”
The Commanders have been in avid pursuit of their next franchise quarterback. According to ESPN, they have conducted an extensive search of 42 potential options at QB. FORTY-TWO. It’s honestly hilarious how hard this team tries to act like they’re working hard when their answer will be Jimmy Garoppolo come Week One.
42 is way too long of a list, and I find it doubtful that’s actually how long their list is. It’s incredibly similar to when the 76ers claimed to interview over 70 candidates to replace Sam Hinkie and ended up hiring the boss’s son.
I get wanting to find a long-term solution, but when you throw out that high of a number, that mathematically confirms you’ve considered Andy Dalton and Gardner Minshew to take over your franchise.
It’s likely one of Washington’s options is former Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz. Colts GM Chris Ballard spoke about Wentz during the NFL Combine and had nothing but horrible things to say when asked about the situation.
“But in the long-term best interest for us, as we sit down and work through whether Carson’s the long-term best answer or not is the best way I can put it. We’re not there yet. I’m not there yet. And that’s something that we’ll talk about as a group and move forward. Whatever decision we make will be the best one for us.”
It’s clear Indy will likely cut Wentz sometime in the next two weeks, but I have never seen a team talk so badly about what is technically their starting quarterback. I can’t imagine the awkwardness if there is no better option out there and they’re forced to roll Wentz back next season like none of this ever happened.
