Free Agency: Eagles linked to All-Pro edge rusher

The rumors continue to intensify for the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the start of free agency on Monday. According to Jordan Schultz, the Eagles have shown interest in star edge rusher Chandler Jones.
The former Cardinal is set to be one of the league’s top free agents and is expected to be worth over $15 million a year. Some of the other teams reported to show interest include the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, and the Miami Dolphins.
However, Jones has publicly stated that he is more interest in scheme fit and team success than just going to the highest bidder.
It’s tough to see the Eagles giving the 32-year-old a long-term deal, but they have been linked to numerous stars this off-season. During the 2021 season, Jones recorded 10.5 sacks alongside six forced fumbles and 12 tackles for loss. Amongst all edge rushers, Jones had the 8th highest pass-rushing grade according to PFF, just behind Von Miller.
Based on their current cap situation, if the Eagles signed Jones at his expected value, he would be their only major acquisition of the off-season unless Philly restructures other contracts.
Philadelphia has been known to value both their offensive and defensive line. Following Brandon Graham’s Achilles tear and the possible departure of Derek Barnett, it’s not surprising that the Eagles want another star opposite of Josh Sweat.
Meanwhile, the Eagles have been receiving offers for veteran DT Fletcher Cox following the trade of Khalil Mack, but it’s unknown how keen they are to trading him. Teams are able to speak with free agents starting on Monday, so any deal could come in under a week.
