Phillies announce 17 non-roster invitees for Major League spring training

The Philadelphia Phillies released their non-roster invitations to Spring Training yesterday. A total 17 players, including seven right-handers, two left-handers, two catchers, four infielders, and two outfielders, will all be joining the MLB club in Clearwater, Florida.

The seven pitchers that the Phillies signed to minor league contracts a few weeks ago will also be invited to attend Spring Training.
Phillies Pitcher Invitees
- Cam Bedrosian (RHP)
- Andrew Bellatti (RHP)
- Tyler Cyr (RHP)
- Kyle Dohy (LHP)
- Joe Gatto (RHP)
- Michael Kelly (RHP)
- Jake Newberry (RHP)
There are some names you should keep an eye on over the next three weeks. Bryson Stott is the #1 positional prospect in the Phillies organization and has a chance to be the Opening Day shortstop.
One name that sticks out to me would be none other than Scott Kingery. Kingery’s downfall at the major league level was a tough pill to swallow and I want nothing more for a return of Jetpax SZN. Kingery played just 15 major league games in 2021, before being sent down to Lehigh Valley for the rest of the season.
Johan Rojas received an invite to Spring Training after his head-turning 2021 season. The 21-year-old hit .263/.329/.417 across three leagues, spending a majority of his time in Jersey Shore. Rojas stole 34 bases last year while tallying 52 RBIs.
Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies front office have work to do. The team has already been linked to many high profile free agents, including Matt Chapman, Kris Bryant, and Nick Castellanos, among others.
With the luxury tax increasing $20M in the new CBA, Dombrowski shouldn’t have any problem getting at least one big name free agent to Philadelphia before the start of the 2022 season.
