NBA Best Bets: A free $200 and celebrating Joel Embiid’s birthday the only way possible

We have a beautiful 13-game slate for NBA props tonight that I’m really hoping we can all capitalize on after a disappointing night last night. Luckily for everyone who was smart enough to hop on the BetMGM bet $10, win $200 train with me, we still came out winners. We’ll dive into tonight’s action in a moment but like any good leader, it’s important to recognize where we went wrong yesterday and learn from it before moving forward.

Yesterday’s Recap:

Wendell Carter Jr. to record a double-double, loss

Well, you couldn’t start any better than I did. Wendell Carter Jr. sits because of a blowout due to Kyrie Irving going nuclear and dropping 60 points. The Nets had around a 30 point lead for the majority of the game, and Carter sat the whole 4th quarter with three rebounds. He had six at halftime and decided just not to rebound anymore. This is the first time Carter has recorded less than eight rebounds in TWO MONTHS.

Like I said yesterday, the blowout potential was likely with the slate we had; however, Carter had the time to grab the four rebounds needed before he got pulled. Mo Bamba recorded five fouls in 17 minutes of action, and Carter still couldn’t grab his ten rebounds. It was just an all-time brutal beat, but I will definitely be going back to Carter whenever he plays again.

Bam Adebayo to record a double-double, loss

Another brutal beat here, as Adebayo was on pace for a double-double by halftime, recording six points and three assists in the first quarter but decided to get three early fouls forcing him to sit the entire second quarter. Isaiah Stewart was activated an hour before tip-off, but he still looked to be no match for Adebayo in the paint. Surprisingly, the blowout wasn’t the concern here; only the early foul trouble limited his minutes.

Now that we got that out of the way let’s get into the best bets of the day. Just by clicking this article, you’re now $200 in the green once you sign up for a new BetMGM Sports account but I assure you there’s even more money to be had via some player props and parlays.

Joel Embiid over 30.5 points (-110)

Joel Embiid is playing tonight and coincidentally, it is his 28th birthday. As you probably already know, we have seen players score 40, 50, and 60 points this week on efficient shooting. On Monday, we saw Steph Curry score 47 points on his 34th birthday shooting 7-14 from deep.

Just like Steph, I feel like Embiid will have an outstanding birthday performance tonight against Cleveland who allows the 7th most points and 6th most rebounds to centers.

Regardless of who the Cavs have, they don’t have an answer for Joel Embiid. This year in the three meetings between the teams, Joel has eclipsed 40 points not once but twice. The last time the teams met, the Cavs had center Jarrett Allen who is now out for a reasonable amount of time due to a fractured finger.

The absence of Jarrett Allen has allowed 20-year-old rookie power forward Evan Mobley to move to the center position and has been thriving. With that being said, if you don’t think that Joel Hans Embiid will absolutely go after a 20-year-old rookie, you’re out of your mind.

I could easily see Mobley getting into foul trouble early, which would dig the Cavs into a hole, with no viable backup available on the bench. The Cavs are in for a long day, and I will definitely be profiting from it.

Update: Joel Embiid is now listed as questionable, but I if he plays he should should still have a great chance of clearing this line. I would be careful about this one with this news and would recommend only throwing about a half unit on this play. The worst case scenario is that Embiid doesn’t play and this bet will be voided.

Clint Capela to record a double-double (-120)

One thing I have learned from betting the NBA this year is to bet on any center playing the Hornets. The Hornets allow the 6th most rebounds in the NBA and give up a lot of short baskets. Capela has had his way in recent matchups against Mason Plumlee averaging 13.6 points and 10.8 rebounds. The main concern with betting on Capela is foul trouble but this is a risk I will be taking tonight in a great matchup.

March Madness!
