Barstool Sports’ Philadelphia-based bar to open tomorrow

After nearly a year of waiting, the Barstool Sports bar will finally be open to the public tomorrow at 11AM. Dave Portnoy tweeted a few photos out this morning showing in the inside of the new bar, located on Sansom Street in Center City.
As mentioned, the bar is located at 1213 Sansom Street in Center City, right by Thomas Jefferson Hospital. Previously, this location held the Brickwall Tavern, which closed in 2020.
Anything that Barstool touches typically finds immediate success since they have a stranglehold on the most coveted college demographic in sports media and entertainment.
Portnoy is on record stating that he doesn’t want the Barstool bar locations to be featured with his “content personalities” but rather just a normal Philly bar that people want to check out for sporting events and then on the weekends for more of a nightlife vibe.
Smart.
Honestly, that makes perfect sense. No shot it survives in center city serving as a haven for drunk frat dudes and Stoolies. In my opinion, the bar to have its own lane in the expanding Barstool empire if it wants to be successful.
Portnoy tweeted out pictures of the Barstool branding all over the ball with signature taglines such as “salt of the earth” and “positive vibes only” and it appears there’s a huge board on the inside that of course, Barstool is using to display the most basic city phrases possible like they typically do to drum up some sense of belonging outside of Boston.

Regardless, minus the sign pandering, everything else looks pretty solid in my book. Will definitely grab a beer there next time I’m stumbling down Sansom.
