Two Eagles publicly hint at team pursuing star free agent

The Eagles made a flurry of moves this weekend, one of which was converting cornerback Darius Slay’s base contract into a signing bonus. This move isn’t anything shocking. It’s something that Howie Roseman has done for years, but some Eagles players are anticipating something big.
In a now deleted tweet, Shaun Bradley publicly hinted at Philadelphia pursuing star safety Tyrann Mathieu. It’s unclear just how much the Eagles have, and Mathieu is sure to be a hefty contract.

The likelihood of signing the Honey Badger is slim. Roseman likely converted Slay’s contract to afford Fletcher Cox and Jason Kelce’s new deals. The Eagles also just brought back Anthony Harris on a one-year deal. Who knows why Bradley deleted the tweet, but Gainwell’s reply is still up.
Philly has been in the mix for some of the top free agents following the acquisition of Haason Reddick, so there’s a chance they could get something done.

Regardless, it’s still great to see so many members of this team trying to bring in more talent. Reddick was publicly pursuing former Commanders DT Matt Ioannidis shortly after he was cut, but he signed with the Carolina Panthers instead.
There are a lot more moves ahead for this team in the coming months, holding three first-round selections in the 2022 Draft. If the Eagles don’t bring back Rodney McLeod, there’s a good chance they look to upgrade at safety in either free agency or the draft.
