Spring Training: Yankees @ Phillies
- Phillies Win 5-3
- Winning Pitcher Zach Eflin (1-0)
- Losing Pitcher James Taillon (1-1)
- Save Cam Bedrosian (1)
Overall, it was a solid showing for the Phillies who had been outscored 21-3 over the last two games. The pitching today from Zach Eflin to the Cam Bedrosian was solid scattering just 4 hits and allowing 3 ER.
Zach Eflin started the game today and looked solid throwing 51 pitches before being taken out in the 4th inning. Eflin finished the day with 3.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K.
After a terrible two-error defensive performance Wednesday against the Tigers, it’s good to see Didi Gregorius and Jean Segura in mid-season form to turn this wild double play.
Jean Segura, not content with just flashing his glove work, reached out for this fastball and literally hit it out of the stadium to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.
After a single by Bryson Stott, future All-Star Mickey Moniak drove this 0-1 fastball off the right-field fence to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead. Moniak has a big hit just about everyday now. Please hit me up in the comment section to tell me again how Mickey is a ‘bust’…WOULD LOVE TO HEAR IT!
Nick Castellanos drove in a run with this two-out RBI off James Taillon to put the Phillies ahead 3-0.
Another at-bat, another hit for Bryson Stott who finished the day 2-2 and is now slashing .550/.640/.800. Stott has 7 hits in his last 8 AB’s.
I’m trying not to overreact and to remember he is a rookie who will struggle at some point. But what can’t this kid do?
Jesus! That’s 112.8 MPH off the bat of Bryce Harper who crushed the shit out of this 3-1 sinker, sending it 390 feet into the right-field grass.
Michael Kelly nearly had his head taken off but managed to rob Isiah Kiner-Falefa of a single in the 8th inning.
Up Next for the Phillies
The Phillies take on the Orioles in Sarasota on Friday at 1:05 p.m. Good luck watching as NBC Sports Philly WILL NOT carry the game.
