Stephen A. Smith voted for Joel Embiid to win MVP, credits Zoolander…wait what?

Stephen A. Smith has submitted his vote for Joel Embiid to the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award. His reasoning is sound, and just like the title of this post says, he credits Zoolander to helping him make his final decision.

Stephen A. Smith makes a bunch of great points throughout his MVP rant, starting with the fact that Joel Embiid’s production never fell off after James Harden arrived in Philadelphia after the NBA Trade Deadline.
Here’s What Joel Embiid averaged during March and April 2022
- March: 30.5 Points, 12.6 Rebounds, 3.6 Assists (15 Games)
- April: 37.8 Points, 14.8 Rebounds, 3.4 Assists (5 Games)
Honestly, I would even take it a step further and say Embiid’s production NEVER fell off throughout the season. We’re talking about the first half of the NBA year with Embiid carrying the 76ers on a nightly basis without his second option Ben Simmons (Zoolander).
Here’s what Joel Embiid did from Christmas to the end of January 2022
- 42 PTS – 14 REBS
- 38 PTS – 12 REBS
- 40 PTS – 13 REBS
- 50 PTS – 12 REBS
- 32 PTS – 8 REBS
- 32 PTS – 12 REBS
- 25 PTS – 13 REBS
- 31 PTS – 6 REBS
- 31 PTS – 8 REBS
- 31 PTS – 12 REBS
- 31 PTS – 5 REBS
- 31 PTS – 15 REBS
- 34 PTS – 7 REBS
- 36 PTS – 11 REBS
- 36 PTS – 13 REBS
Embiid deserves to win the award. After the first NBA Straw Poll back in February, he had a commanding lead over Nikola Jokic in the MVP voting, then something changed and when the final Straw Poll was released, Embiid essentially was out of the race.

At this point, after seeing some of the ballots already submitted for the NBA MVP, it’s unlikely that Embiid will walk home with the award but at the very least, there are some national media members that will be correct in their votes while others embarrass themselves and question the integrity of voting as whole.
I do however, love Stephen A. Smith calling Ben Simmons Zoolander. I mean come on, look at this guy on the bench last night during the Nets-Cavs play-in game. What a weirdo.
There’s no way a player like Kevin Durant actually likes Ben Simmons. Simmons highlights everything that KD hates on a daily basis on Twitter. We talked on the latest episode of The Misery Report that Ben Simmons is basically the Nets version of Reek from Game of Thrones.
What on earth is he doing wearing an all-leather bright green outfit on the bench? He’s not a fan sitting court side watching a basketball game, he is a member of the Brooklyn Nets and is supposed to be playing. Anything to remain relevant I guess.
Anyways, Stephen A. Smith is spot on, Embiid has proven he is the most valuable player regardless of how the votes fall when it’s all said and done.
