What is wrong with the Phillies?

The Phillies are coming off a disappointing series down vs the Marlins, losing three of four and falling to 4-6 on the year. The pitching was horrendous and the bats went cold, as they continued to find ways to lose games in Miami.

Take away the Phillies’ 10-run game three, and the team crossed just seven runs across the plate in three total games vs the Marlins.

  • Bryce Harper: .156/.300/.344 with 11 strikeouts
  • Kyle Schwarber: .094/.194/.219 with 12 strikeouts
  • Bryson Stott: .154/.185/.192 with 9 strikeouts

Although it feels like the sky is falling, not everything is bad. Alec Bohm is hitting .700/.625/.900 in 10 at-bats, while Jean Segura, Nick Castellanos, Johan Camargo, and JT Realmuto all have averages above .300. Rhys Hoskins has recorded 8 hits and 4 doubles this season and is leading the team in walks.

Series Pitching Matchups

  • Monday: Aaron Nola vs Chad Muhl
  • Tuesday: Kyle Gibson vs Kyle Freeland
  • Wednesday: Zach Eflin vs German Marquez

Aaron Nola gets the ball tonight in the series opener for the Phillies. Nola has made two starts this season, and is coming off an outing of just 3.1 innings pitched. He allowed three earned runs, striking out just five batters and walking three vs the New York Mets.

Kyle Gibson will take the hill on Tuesday night. Gibson had a great first start to his season, throwing seven shutout innings against the Athletics. His second start wasn’t exactly good, as he allowed four earned runs and five hits to the Marlins in just 4.2 innings.

Zach Eflin is set to get the ball in the series finale on Wednesday night. Eflin has had a rough start to his 2022 season, not making it past the fourth inning yet. He suffered six hits and four earned runs in Friday night’s loss to Miami, striking out just four batters.

Colorado Rockies…Real or Frauds?

The Rockies have started off their 2022 season very well with a 6-3 record over their first nine games. C.J Cron, Connor Joe, and Kris Bryant have led the way for the team, all crushing an OPS over .800.

The Phillies shouldn’t have a problem hitting any of these pitchers. Marquez has allowed five earned runs and 13 hits in two outings, while, Kyle Freeland hasn’t gotten past the sixth inning yet all year, allowing 10 earned runs and 14 hits in two losses.

Prediction

The Phillies are heading to the most hitter-friendly park in all of baseball, and I think it works as a spark for the offense. Phillies bats finally find their footing tonight, and it leads to a series win. Phillies take two of three.

Final Pick for Tonight: Phillies -1.5 and Over 11 runs scored
