Roster Moves: Odubel Herrera activated from the 10-Day IL, Simon Muzziotti sent down to Double-A

Odubel Herrera has been activated from the 10-day IL, according to the team. As a corresponding move, Simon Muzziotti has been optioned back to Double-A.
The Phillies loaded up on corner outfielders in the offseason but were still stuck at the centerfield position. Odubel was re-signed to a $1.75M contract prior to spring training but was placed on the IL just a few days in with an oblique strain.
The team was centered around a Vierling/Herrera “platoon” before Odubel’s injury, but with the emergence of Mickey Moniak, those plans were changed. Moniak then broke his hand in his last spring training at-bat, leading to Simon Muzziotti’s call up to the big leagues for the first time in his career.

The centerfield position was a disaster last year and hasn’t gotten off to a hot start in 2022 either. Vierling was coming off an impressive 2021 stint, where he hit .324/.364/.479. He went through a massive slump to start this season but has started to figure it out over the last few games. He’s hitting .172/.242/.207 this season, with 5 hits in 29 at-bats.
The Phillies are getting a hit-or-miss player back in Odubel Herrera. The centerfielder hit .260/.310/.416 in 2021, tallying 117 hits, 25 doubles, 13 HRs, and 51 RBIs in 124 games. We could be seeing Odubel’s return tonight, with right-handed pitcher Freddy Peralta set to throw for Milwaukee in the series opener.
