Phillies Roster Moves: Eflin and Wheeler hit the COVID-IL, Morales recalled, and more ahead of today’s doubleheader

Well, this certainly isn’t ideal for the Philadelphia Phillies. Zach Eflin and Zack Wheeler are heading to the COVID-IL, and LHP Cristopher Sanchez will be the 27th man for today’s doubleheader against the New York Mets and will start Game 2 at 4:05PM.
Francisco Morales will be called up from Double-A, making the first appearance of his career in the big leagues. Morales has impressed early in Reading during 2022, tallying a 0.55 ERA in 16.1 innings, striking out 28 batters. Morales has thrown 9 games for Reading, all out of the bullpen.
Zach Eflin hits the COVID-related IL, after a tough start to his 2022 season. He’s tallied a 4.50 ERA in 5 starts, allowing 26 hits and 12 earned runs. Eflin has totaled 24 innings on the season, tallying a WHIP of 1.292.
Cristopher Sanchez will start Game 2 of today’s Mother’s Day doubleheader. Sanchez has thrown four games out of the pen this year, tallying a 5.40 ERA in 10 total innings. He’s allowed 8 hits, 6 earned runs and has struck out 10. Today’s start will be his first of the year.
It was later announced that Zack Wheeler would hit the COVID-IL as well. Connor Brogdon will be recalled to take his place temporarily. Wheeler had a rough start to his season but has thrown well as of recent, tallying 13.2 innings, zero earned runs allowed, 7 hits allowed, and 14 Ks over his last two starts.
