Series Preview: Phillies head out west for the week, take on the Seattle Mariners in a 3-game series

The Phillies head to the Emerald City to start off the new week, as they take on the Seattle Mariners in a three-game series.
After a rough weekend for the Phillies, it’s time to get back on track. The road ahead is a tough one, but this is where they prove how legit of a baseball team they are. They start off their 7-game road trip with three in Seattle, who is 13-16 on the season, trailing the Angels and Astros in the AL West.
The Phillies are coming off a series loss to the Mets. They blew an epic lead in the first game on Thursday night, their next two games got rained out on Friday and Saturday, and they closed out the weekend by splitting the doubleheader with NY on Sunday.
A new week is ahead of us, and although the Sixers are taking over the world right now, the Phillies need to get back in the win column. The NBA Deep State is real, but we already knew that. I need a Phillies series win more than I need air to breathe. Let’s win some money tonight, shall we?
FOX Bet Odds Boosts
- Ranger Suarez 5 Ks and Phillies Win +300
- Bryce Harper and Adam Frazier 1+ Runs Each +400
- 5x Your Money: Julio Rodriguez Steal +400
Bryce Harper is really starting to heat up, and it’s obvious. His bat was hot this weekend, and he’s still running the bases like an absolute maniac, per usual. Adam Frazier leads the Mariners in runs scored this season, and I think Suarez gives up a run or two.
Final Pick: Bryce Harper and Adam Frazier 1+ Run Each +400

Series Pitching Matchups
- Monday (9:40 EST): Ranger Suarez vs Chris Flexen
- Tuesday (9:40 EST): Aaron Nola vs Robbie Ray
- Wednesday (3:40 EST): Undecided vs Logan Gilbert
Ranger Suarez is set to get the ball tonight for the Phillies. Suarez has posted a 4.63 ERA this year in 23.1 innings pitched, allowing 28 total hits, 10 walks, and striking out 15 batters. He’s coming off his first loss of the year, where he threw five innings and allowed six hits, three earned runs, and two home runs. Chris Flexen takes the hill tonight for the Mariners, looking to get back in the win column. He’s dropped four out of his five starts this year, posting a 3.10 ERA in 29 innings pitched.
Aaron Nola will be on the bump Tuesday night. Nola is coming off one of his best starts in years, throwing 7 innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run, while striking out seven. The Phillies were hitting that night, and everything was going to plan, until the epic collapse happened, where they would eventually lose 8-7. He’ll be facing 2021 Cy-Young Winner Robbie Ray, who has totaled a 4.38 ERA in 37 innings thrown this year, with 31 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.24.
With Zack Wheeler and Zach Eflin both on the COVID-IL as of today, the Phillies have not named a starter for Wednesday afternoon’s game. If neither Eflin or Wheeler have COVID, it is likely they will be both back on the roster by then, although they most likely didn’t make the trip with the team due to restrictions. Logan Gilbert will get the ball for the Mariners in the series finale, and looks to build on his great start to the season. Gilbert has tallied a 1.36 ERA in 33 innings, with 33 Ks and just 2 HRs allowed.

Injuries and Slumps
Injuries and slumps are the two biggest problems with the Phillies right now. Didi Gregorius hit the IL just a few days ago, Zach Eflin and Zack Wheeler are now on the COVID list, and key Phillies hitters are going through massive slumps. Rhys Hoskins is struggling immensely at the plate, as his average has now dropped down to .189/.291/.347 on the year, with 32 strikeouts.
It’s hard to keep saying this team is going to be fine. Hoskins’ bat can’t be in the lineup every day as much as I want it to be. Give him a day or two off, let him figure it out, and get him back in the lineup once he’s confident again.
While Hoskins struggles, Bohm and Castellanos are surging. Bohm is slashing .318/.318/.409 over the last 7 days, while Castellanos is slugging .333/.375/.600. The two have combined for 12 hits, 3 doubles, and 3 RBIs over the last 7 days, and are looking to continue their dominance out west.

Seattle Mariners
The Mariners are being led by four players this year…JP Crawford, Adam Frazier, Ty France, and Eugenio Suarez. Former Phillie JP Crawford is having a breakout year for Seattle, slashing .340/.435/.546 in 97 at-bats. Eugenio Suarez leads the team in HRs with 6, while Ty France leads the Mariners in RBIs with 22.
Their pitching has totaled a 3.65 ERA on the year and is being led by Logan Gilbert, who the Phillies will face on Wednesday afternoon. Their bullpen has struggled, having just one arm out of the pen with an ERA under 3.5. The team is 13-16 on the year, trailing the division-leading Los Angeles Angeles by 5.5 games.

I want to think the Phillies get back on track, but I just can’t trust this baseball team right now. Am I going to take them to win tonight, and the series? Absolutely.
Phillies +104 and OVER 7.5 runs tonight.
