A pair of 76ers legends win EuroCup with Virtus Bologna
Even with the 76ers’ season coming to an end, a few former players won a championship overseas.
Virtus Bologna, a team that features both 76ers Marco Belinelli and JaKarr Sampson, won the 2022 EuroCup with an 80-67 victory over Bursaspor.
Virtus was led by former Los Angeles Clippers guard Miloš Teodosić, who had 21 points on 8/12 shooting. Meanwhile, Belinelli had 12 points, and Sampson had 11 on a perfect 5/5 from the floor.
Sampson joined the team this past off-season, while Belinelli started his career with Virtus in 2002 and returned to the club in 2020. Belinelli joined the 76ers halfway through the 2018 season as a buyout, performing well off the bench before signing with the San Antonio Spurs.
Sampson was a famous product of the process Sixers, signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2014, but was waived in 2016.
At this rate, it won’t be long until half the 76ers’ roster joins these two overseas after their abysmal performance against the Miami Heat this post-season, being blown out at home in Game 6 on Thursday night.
