Maybe the Phillies should permanently move to Chavez Ravine, because the bats have absolutely caught fire in the first three games of the series. The Phillies have now scored 27 runs in this series, their most ever in a three-game set at Dodger Stadium. The previous high came when they scored 26 runs on June 8-10, 1976.
Everyone knew that at some point this season the Phillies high powered offense would take-off. Not many figured it would be against the team with the best pitching staff in the National League.
The Phillies jumped all over Julio Urias, who entered the game with a stingy 2.10 ERA but couldn’t keep Phillies hitters in the park. Tonight was the third game this season that the Phillies hit four or more home runs and for Urias the four home runs allowed equaled his career high. In just 4 innings the Phils tagged Urias for eight runs and eight hits which proved to be enough to put them over the top.
Jean Segura put the Phillies up 3-0 in the 1st inning with a 3-run home run extending his hitting streak to 11 games in the process. Segura is now hitting .469 with three home runs, a double, and five walks to six strikeouts in the month of May.
Ranger Suarez picked up the win improving to 4-1 on the season and despite not having his best command early in the game really settled down against a formidable Dodgers lineup.
Ranger Suarez 7 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
Bryce Harper homered for the third straight game in Dodgers Stadium when he hit a 3-run blast in the 4th inning to put the Phillies ahead 6-1. Harper is now tied the most ever extra base hits (7), in a three-game span with Adrian Gonzalez who achieved the feat in 2015.
Harper is scorching at the plate and is now slashing .291/.350/.598 159 wRC+ after starting the season slow and suffering from a partially torn UCL. Unfortunately for the Phillies and Harper, he will miss Sundays game in order to receive a PRP injection meant to help heal his partially torn UCL. There is a possibility he will also miss Tuesdays’s game in South Philly against the San Diego Padres.
With the win the Phillies are once again a .500 baseball team and picked up a series victory over the Dodgers for the first time since 2014. The Phils go for the rare four game sweep tomorrow afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 4:10 pm.
