Kevin Hayes named finalist for 2022 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy

Earlier today, the NHL revealed that Flyers center Kevin Hayes is a finalist for the 2022 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey. This year’s other two finalists are Canadiens goalie Carey Price and Islanders defenseman Zdeno Chara
Hayes was nominated following a grueling season that included the devastating loss of his brother, Jimmy, alongside numerous injuries, including undergoing a procedure to drain fluid from his adductor region (core area).
Last season’s winner was Hayes’ teammate, Oskar Lindblom. Lindblom was the fourth Flyers player to win the Masterson. The previous winners were Ian Laperriere back in 2011, Tim Ker in 1989, and Bobby Clarke back in 1972. Lindblom was also a finalist in 2020 but didn’t win the award.
The winner will be announced during this season’s NHL Awards Show, which will take place during the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals in a few weeks.
