Game 2 Preview: Phillies offense looks to bounce back with Zack Wheeler on the bump vs Blake Snell and the Padres

The Phillies take the field tonight vs the Padres at 6:45, looking to bounce back from last night’s ugly 3-0 loss. Zack Wheeler is set to take the hill for the Phillies, going up against Blake Snell, who will make his season debut for the Padres.
The Phillies tallied just five hits last night, as poor at-bats and bad defense swung the game in the 7th. The team logged 10 strikeouts, including four from Kyle Schwarber and two from Rhys Hoskins. Zach Eflin threw a great game, logging 6 innings pitched with just 1 earned run allowed, but the offense couldn’t back him up in the end.
The tides now turn to tonight. Bryce Harper is still out of the lineup, after receiving his PRP injection on Sunday, making this his third missed game in a row. Last night’s loss pushed the Phillies to six games back in the NL East, tied with the Marlins at 17-19.
Knowing the Phillies, they’ll win the next two games to end a series at .500.
Favorite Bets from FanDuel Sportsbook
- Alec Bohm 2+ Hits +280
- Jean Segura RBI +155
- Zack Wheeler 6+ Ks -150
- Phillies Team Total Over 4 Runs -118
Alec Bohm has been the most consistent hitter in the Phillies lineup this season, currently leading the team in batting average and Jean Segura is the hottest hitter over the last 7 days for the Phillies outside of Bryce Harper. I think Zack Wheeler really dominates tonight. We’ve seen good Zack Wheeler, but we haven’t seen 2021 Wheeler…until tonight. Give me the Phillies TT Over 4 as well.
Zack Wheeler vs Blake Snell
Zack Wheeler gets the ball for the Phillies tonight, coming off a solid start in Los Angeles. Wheeler threw five and a third against the Dodgers, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out seven batters. Wheeler has recovered well from his rough start to the season, currently holding a 4.26 ERA in 31.2 innings pitched.
Blake Snell takes the hill for the Padres tonight, making his 2022 season debut. Snell has been nursing an adductor strain that has been lingering since February. His 2021 season was his first with San Diego, tallying a 4.20 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP in 128.2 innings.

Tonight’s Starting Lineup
Lineup Notes: Bryce Harper is out of the lineup once again. Kyle Schwarber will get a night off in the field, as Odubel will start in left. Camargo will play short, giving Stott the night off.
Prediction
Zack Wheeler holds a 1.93 ERA in four home starts, and Blake Snell is making his 2022 debut. This one should be easy tonight, but it’s the Phillies, so it probably won’t be.
