Series Preview: Bailey Falter and the Phillies kick off a massive 3-game series against the Mets

The Phillies stay on the road to take on the NL East-leading New York Mets tonight at 7:10 PM. Bailey Falter is set to take the hill for the Phillies, taking on Carlos Carrasco (4-1, 3.50 ERA) for the Mets.
The Phils are coming off a win last night in Atlanta. JT Realmuto went yard and Aaron Nola tossed 8 shutout innings. The Phillies are now 21-24 on the season, and sit 7.5 games behind the Mets in the NL East standings.
Phillies-Mets is one of the best rivalries in baseball and I know it’s not even June yet, the Fightins desperately need a series win. If you want to get crazy, they would sit 4.5 games back of New York if they sweep. The worst-case scenario? Getting swept, which would leave them a whopping 10.5 back.

Both of these bets really stand out to me tonight. Kyle Schwarber is a career Mets killer, tallying 16 HRs and 32 RBIs in 39 games against the Mets. Bryce Harper is hot, and that won’t change tonight.

Bailey Falter vs Carlos Carrasco
Bailey Falter was called up and will start tonight to provide the regular rotation guys some extra rest. Why on earth are the Phillies making this type of move ahead of a pivotal series against their NL East leading rivals? I have no idea. We haven’t seen a clear explanation from the Phillies as to why either. My guess, it won’t work out as planned tonight and there will be a ton of questions that fans demand answers to after the game. Regardless, Falter will be going up against Carlos Carrasco, who is 4-1 on the season with a 3.50 ERA, currently holding a 2.16 home ERA.

New York Mets
The Mets, as sad as it is to say, have been a good baseball team this season. They hold a 7.5-game lead in the NL East, are 29-17 on the season and have a run differential of +45. They did lose Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, which is obviously a huge blow to their starting rotation, but their offense has been good enough to help them win ballgames. Jeff McNeil is leading the way with a .321 average, while Pete Alonso has 11 HRs and 41 RBIs.
