Joel Embiid undergoes two surgical procedures in hand

Joel Embiid underwent surgery yesterday to repair the torn ligament in his right thumb suffered during the 2022 NBA Playoffs. Embiid injured his thumb during their first-round matchup against the Toronto Raptors.

Alongisde the thumb surgery, he also had work done on his left index finger, which wasn’t known to be injured before today. Embiid’s orbital fracture is not expected to need surgery at this time.

The ligament tear was known to need surgery, but he was still able to play with it against the Raptors and Miami Heat. Between the two injuries, Joel didn’t look himself on the court, and it’s hard to blame him.

Last summer, Embiid had a partially torn meniscus he played on during the 2021 post-season but opted not to undergo surgery following their Game Seven elimination against the Atlanta Hawks.

Luckily, none of this is expected to linger through training camp, and he will be a full go for the start of the 2022/2023 season.
