Phillies closer Corey Knebel listed as day to day with shoulder discomfort

According to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson has listed closer Corey Knebel as “day to day” with shoulder discomfort.

Thomson shut down Knebel in Saturday’s 4-0 win against the D-Backs due to shoulder tightness, but was able to get through a throwing session yesterday.
On the season, Knebel is 2-4 with a 3.24 ERA, with 11 saves in 14 opportunities this season. In his most recent save opportunity on Friday, Knebel needed just 17 pitches to deliver the Phillies their eighth straight win and 11th save of the season.
All things considered, it looks like shutting Knebel down on Saturday was precautionary.
“I’d rather be out one, two days than go on the IL,” Knebel said. “I’ve had injuries in the past and I’ve thrown through them and then I get hurt. I’d just like this not to be an injury. Being overly cautious is a good thing right now. The boys are doing good. We’d like to keep that going.” via MLB.com
Who knows when Knebel will be ready to pitch again but the Phillies do have some options at closer until that happens. The first choice would be Seranthony Domínguez, who continues to pitch well for the Fightins this season. Dominguez is 3-1 with a 1.61 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched. He has notched 29 strikeouts with a 0.94 WHIP.
