Phillies claim OF Oscar Mercado off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians

The Phillies have claimed outfielder Oscar Mercado off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians, according to the team.
Oscar Mercado has spent four years in the major leagues, all with the Cleveland Guardians. He’s totaled 272 games with the team, hitting .235/.287/.388 in that time, good for a .604 OPS. He’s hit 26 HRs throughout his 4-year career while having 95 RBIs and 200 hits.
Mercado was DFA’d by the Guardians four days ago, as a corresponding move to bring Franmil Reyes and Aaron Civale back to the team from the IL. Mercado posted a 2.3 WAR his rookie season, where he finished 8th in Rookie of the Year voting. He’s played 112 games in centerfield throughout his career, tallying a .996 fielding percentage, and 15 runs saved above average.
Damon Jones was recalled from Lehigh Valley and placed on the 60-day IL as a corresponding move. A 26-man roster move will be made tomorrow, once Mercado gets to Philadelphia. Just two days after losing Bryce Harper for an unknown amount of time, the Phillies acquire a defense-first outfielder.
