Brian Dawkins teams up with Wolverine in special edition comic

Brian Dawkins is finally getting the superhero treatment he deserves. The Eagles great will be joining Wolverine on the cover of a limited edition comic series by artist Carlos Pacheco.

Few players in the history of sports have matched the intensity of Brian Dawkins on the field. He didn’t just hit his opponents. He shattered them.
Throughout his career, Brian Dawkins became synonymous with marvel comic’s iconic Mutant by channeling the character via his infamous Weapon X persona.
Brian Dawkins transformed into Weapon X on game day.
Seriously. If you think of Wolverine, next to Hugh Jackman and Stan Lee, Brian Dawkins is probably the most closely associated person with that character.
The Hall of Fame safety’s furious spirit caught the attention of players, fans, and the media, who compared him to a leopard or a lion searching for their prey — or, in this case, a wide receiver or quarterback. He later became referred to as Weapon X, a Marvel comic code name in the Wolverine series.
“I was a huge fan of Wolverine,” Dawkins said. “I was blessed to be able to kind of use some of that energy he displayed in the comic books on the field. That kind of animal-like instinct.”

It’s a testament to how cool and pants-shittingly terrifying Dawkins was as a player that we all happily agreed that it was awesome he was pretending to be a comic book character. Very few guys can pull that off.
I’m pretty sure if I walked into the office and started referring to myself as Iron Man, I’d be politely asked to go home and never come back. In fact, they’d likely escort out of the building by security. And rightfully so.
Unfortunately he’s only appearing on the cover. It would have been great to have gotten a comic featuring him showing up at random football games and lighting up unsuspecting receivers. Maybe a series where he stops NFL players from committing career-ending crimes using brute force while speaking in tongues.
First one is free, Marvel. After that, my golden ideas come with a price.
